Solon hasn’t won a conference title in two years, but this year they should have a strong shot.
The Comets only lost one game in the premier Valley division of the conference, and it was to state semi-finalist Brunswick, 14-10. The Blue Devils are still champs until someone knocks them off, but the Comets have a good shot of doing that this season.
Here is the PD’s full projected Valley Division finish:
- Solon (9-3 overall, 4-1 in conference, 1-1 in playoffs)
- Strongsville (6-4, 3-2)
- Brunswick (13-1 overall, 5-0 in conference, 3-1 in playoffs)
- Medina (4-6 overall, 2-3 in conference)
- Lakewood (4-6 overall, 1-4 in conference)
- Elyria (1-9 overall, 0-5 in conference)
Winning the Valley division title would give Solon a very good shot at making its 10th-straight playoff appearance. The Comets are one of the top teams in the area along with St. Ignatius (the early favorite from Northeast Ohio to win the region), Mentor (they have played in two-straight title games) and Glenville (always loaded with talent).
This conference will come down to a three-way race between Solon, Strongsville and Brunswick. At least two of those teams should have a good shot at making the playoffs.
