The Comets have played a very rugged schedule this season, and they face one of their toughest tests yet this Friday night.
Strongsville comes in with just one loss. Unfortunately, they stand between Solon and the playoffs. Oh, and so does St. Eds.
Yes, it is true, a win this Friday night does not guarantee a playoff [...]

Solon faces must win this Friday against Strongsville
Solon drops out of top 8 in Region 1 playoff race
The Comets have dropped to No. 9 in Region 1 and will have to win out to make the playoffs.
The Comets also have to hope that No. 8 Brecksville-Broadview Heights loses to Steele this weekend. Steele is undefeated and would be worth a ton of playoff points for Brecksville-Broadview Heights. The Comets have on remaining [...]
Comets hanging on to last playoff spot in Region 1
I don’t need to tell Comet fans how important last week’s game against Brunswick was.
The close 20-17 loss saw Solon drop from No. 6 to No. 8 in Region 1, and there are several schools looking to overtake the Comets. Solon (4-3 overall) has 11.13 playoff point average, and No. 12 Warren Harding has a [...]
Chagrin Falls sneaks into latest PD football poll
The Tigers are now ranked No. 23 in The Plain Dealer’s football poll, after their surprising 4-1 start.
Solon is ranked No. 14. The Comet offense has been too inconsistent to garner a higher ranking, but Solon’s defense is top notch. If Solon’s offense can step it up, expect the Comets to improve and march back [...]
Solon playoff update: Comets not in top 8
Currently the Comets are tied for No. 14 in Region 1.
The top 8 teams make the playoffs. Region 1 is very rugged with Glenville, St. Ignatius and St. Edwards all in it. All three should easily make the playoffs.
Beyond that, Strongsville is looking good this year. So are Boardman and others.
At this point, Solon has [...]
Solon loses a close game to Mentor
The Comets took Mentor to the brink in a game that featured five lead changes, but Solon ultimately could not pull out the victory.
It was Solon’s 5th straight loss to Mentor, and the series is now tied 7-7. Both teams might meet again for the third-straight season in the playoffs.
The game was a must win [...]
Solon vs. Mentor has playoff implications
This game will tell us a lot about both teams.
Can Mentor make a third state title run in a row? Is Solon for real? Will the Comets’ offense finally find its stride?
These are some of the questions that need to be answered tonight.
We do know that Solon has a fantastic defense. They have given up [...]
Perry debuts on PD’s Top 25 Poll
The Pirates debut this week at No. 21 on the Plain Dealer’s Top 25 poll.
I expect Perry to continue to climb in the rankings.
Aurora fell to No. 19, after losing to Avon last week. Avon is now ranked No. 18. It looks like Avon is rebounding as a program.
Maybe Avon is really just that good. [...]
Solon defeats Canton McKinley
The Comets started the season off with a surprisingly easy 24-10 win over the Bulldogs.
Solon led 14-3 at the half and was never really threatened. The Comets new backfield acquitted itself well. Juan Lemus scored the first points of the game off a 31-yard touchdown run. Jake Voigt hit tight end Ryan Rosenberg for a [...]
Game preview: Solon looking to start off strong against Canton McKinley
Head Coach Jim McQuaide makes no bones about it.
“This is the toughest schedule we have ever played,” he said.
That schedule kicks off against one of the most storied programs in Ohio, Canton McKinley. Solon will be traveling to Fawcett Stadium this Saturday for the showdown. McQuaide said everyone will have to step up to beat [...]
